What does it mean to be compassionate?
To love thy neighbour ast thou love thyself?
Or is it subtle, lying hidden it
Surprises when you tap the filtered well

Compassion for the girl who works the till
I really tried to keep my order short
Won't have a conversation, never will
I'm not a talk with strangers type of sort

Compassion for a man who knows he's dying
As all must do, but this guy really knows
To hold his hand and even though you're crying
Your touch is all he has until he goes

I'll never be a Buddha or a Christ
But be there for your fellow grains of rice
